Popular in rural, forested places with snowy winters, A-frame homes give just enough living space while harmoniously blending into the natural landscape.
A home with a triangular roof that resembles the capital letter "A" is an A-frame house. A-frames are often two- or three-story structures with a spacious first-floor living space, a smaller second storey above the living room, and a little bedroom loft on the top floor.
The front and back walls of the house generally have large windows that let in natural light. The sloped sides of the A-shaped roof serve as the other two walls.
The heavily sloped roof of an A-frame house keeps snow from building up and causing damage. Snow slides right off the sides of an A-frame, which spares the homeowner the expense of roof repairs.

Most ski chalets in snowy regions are A-frame log cabins, and A-frame holiday cabin rentals are ideal for outdoorsmen.
